2012 MERCEDES-BENZ CLS CLASS
The 2012 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class is redesigned with freshened styling,
new engines, and new features, including a fuel-saving engine stop/start
function on CLS63 models. This premium-midsize car is a 4-passenger, 4-door
sedan that shares elements of its basic design with the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. The CLS550
is available with rear- or all-wheel drive. It has a 402-horsepower
turbocharged 4.7-liter V8 engine, which replaces a 382-horsepower 5.5-liter V8.
The high-performance, rear-drive CLS63 is tuned by Mercedes' AMG division. It
has a 518-horsepower turbocharged 5.5-liter V8, which replaces a 507-horsepower
6.2-liter V8. An optional Performance Package for the CLS63 increases
horsepower to 550. CLS550 models have a 7-speed automatic transmission. CLS63
versions use a 7-speed automated-manual transmission that behaves much like a
conventional automatic. Safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid
system, curtain-side airbags, and front- and rear-side airbags. Blind-spot
alert, lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning with automatic
braking, and a night-vision system are available. CLS63 models have an adaptive
sport suspension. A voice-activated navigation system with 40-gigabyte hard
drive is standard on all. Among the optional features are heated and ventilated
front seats, keyless access/engine start, and adaptive cruise control. An AMG
Performance Package for the CLS63 includes a performance suspension, increased
top-speed limiter, and a power boost to 550 horsepower
